Youth & Youth Serving Adults
Canvas Programs’ workshops are interactive, empathy-based and trauma-informed. In a judgement-free environment, participants gain essential skills and knowledge to challenge homophobia, transphobia, consent, and gender-based violence.
Canvas Programs are tailored to provide age-appropriate education for grades 5-12 as well as interactive and engaging trainings for adults working with youth. We can’t wait to work with you!

Welcome to Canvas Programs’ SpeakOUT Program stream. All programs listed can be booked individually, however our clients find our programs are best when they’re working together. We lay out our programs in a roadmap with 3 steps to help you along your inclusion journey.
Teacher Workshops (step 1)
SpeakOUT Teachers
Participants build a comprehensive understanding regarding diversity in sexual orientations, gender identities, practical tools for pronoun use and support strategies. Staff receive tangible steps to create and maintain safer, inclusive spaces for students.
Student Workshops (step 2)
2SLGBTQIA+ Inclusion
Students gain a better understanding of gender and sexual identities, pronouns, how to challenge queer-phobic bullying, and the importance of acceptance and compassion.
Allies at the Intersection
Students acquire a greater understanding of privilege, how intersectional identities including race, culture and religion intersect with queer identity, and the importance of allyship. We recommend a 2SLGBTQIA+ Inclusion workshop first.
2SLGBTQIA+ Panel Discussion
We also offer panels which can be a good option for some schools. Through personal storytelling, Canvas staff provide learners with empathy for and knowledge of sexual and gender diversity, trans identity and inclusive future. Though we can offer more attendance at one time for these panels, we cannot always accommodate interactivity as well as our regular programs above.
Arts Programming (step 3)
Trans Buttons & Belonging
Participants expand their understanding of trans inclusion and reflect on their own identities and commitments to social change by engaging in the novel, practical, and fun art form of button making. Canvas Programs provides all arts programming materials for this workshop.
Write About Now: Identity
This creative writing workshop encourages youth to reflect on their unique identities and the importance of their lived experiences through odes and conversations around allyship. Canvas Programs provides all arts programming materials for this workshop.
Welcome to Canvas Programs’ Consent Kit Program stream. All programs listed can be booked individually, however our clients find our programs are best when they’re working together. We lay out our programs in a roadmap with 3 steps to help you along your consent education journey.
Teacher Workshops (step 1)
Consent Kit Teachers
Participants learn best practices to foster, promote, and maintain a culture of consent amongst their students. Staff are given clear, tangible skills to support youth survivors of sexual violence.
Student Workshops (step 2)
Interpersonal Consent
Students attain a foundational understanding of consent, including barriers, such as power dynamics, alcohol/drugs and peer pressure. This is our most foundational workshop for consent and is essential before booking other workshops in this stream.
Consent & Care
Students learn how emotions impact our state of mind, decision making skills and interactions with others. This workshop takes what is learned in interpersonal consent and connects it with realistic scenarios and tangible skills for them to take away.
BRAVER Together
Students are taught the BRAVER framework, which provides clear steps to support peers following sexual assault or harassment. This is our most mature workshop in this stream and we generally recommend it for older grades (usually grades 11 & 12 students).
Arts Programming (step 3)
Write About Now: Consent
This workshop fosters creative writing on topics such as consent, body autonomy, and care, and empowers youth to create brave spaces and positive changes in their communities. Canvas Programs provides all arts programming materials for this workshop.
Youth Equity Support
Canvas’ Y.E.S. Program teaches adults working with youth about 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion and consent, enabling them to model, promote and maintain safe, inclusive spaces for youth. Participating in essential allyship and consent education equips educators to create empowering and safe spaces for students who may lack acceptance elsewhere. Canvas’ programs are a vital first step in allyship, supporting queer youth, and implementing concrete steps to foster and maintain inclusive spaces.
